Last Update 17JUN2022

Montenegro has a small but useful train system connecting it’s major towns with frequent service.  There is one main line between Bar, a port city, and Belgrade in Serbia.  The capital sits an hour north of Bar with a spar line running to Niksic.

The official website is: http://www.zcg-prevoz.me/

There are currently no apps.  Tickets can be purchased on the offical website, or at any station.

Montenergo uses the Euro for its offical currency.

The most scenic part of the journey is the end, between Podgorica and Bar.

Domestic Trains

Domestic routes run frequntly between major cities.  You can usually find a service every 2/3 hours from each main station with Podgorica serving as a hub for the only spoke to Niksic.  Tickets can only be purchased at the station.

Interrail / Eurail Concerns:

Passes are accepted on all routes.  You must pay for sleeper upgrades, usually the difference between the cost of a seat and the cost of a sleeper.  I will update exact costs when I leave the country on 25JUN2022.

For the sleeper service the agent will ensure you “booked” for your entire route on the rail planner app as normal.

Domestic trains are hop on/off.
